Peoples

A topic of great debate in this modern earth is the peoples of Ennor and Aman.  Some believe they were created simultaneously in different parts of Arda, while others believe some races were created before others.  Both theories, in their turn, are correct.  Among legends, the Eldar believe they were created first by Eru, then the Khazd by Aul of the Valar, then Men to be kept in Eru's sacred hand, as creatures set high and far apart beyond them, for while all races of creatures upon Arda owned souls, only the Aphadrim were known to have a spirit capable of direct communion with Illvatar, the Father of All.  (Much of this is told in "Athrabeth Finrod ah Andreth", the tale of the conversation between Finrod Felagund and a woman in Beleriand.)  Men, rather, tend to believe that the ancestors of all the races were birthed at once by the Creator, and so the thinking peoples of Arda - Men, Eldar, Khazd, and Hobbits - are widely called Erusin, or "children of Eru".

Though the clans of Khazd kept mostly one culture with few variations as far as it is documented, the Eldar and Aphadrim and Periannath became more widespread, developing a variety of diverse customs and peoples within themselves.  Some races, such as those of Nmenor, were ancient peoples, destroyed as early as the mid Second Age, though bloodlines and much architecture remained in the ruins of Arnor and influenced the land of Gondor as late as the Fourth Age.  By the Fifth Age, no official knowledge was known between the kindreds, or even if all still existed.
